Yes! Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a way of borrowing materials (articles, books) from other libraries in other cities or states. Check to confirm that LSC does not have a copy/access, check before creating an ILL request. For books or movies, check the LSC Library Catalog. If you are looking for an article, try searching the Publication Finder to see if the journal is available from LSC before requesting.

What does it cost?

It is typically free to you, the requester, to use -- the libraries cover the costs.

How long does it take to get my item?

• Articles may arrive in your LSC inbox within a couple of business days since they can be shared electronically.
  • Important! Check your email regularly, as the download link will expire. The email contains the download link rather than an attachment of the article.
• Books take longer since they must be physically shipped. The good news is, you'll get to keep the book longer, too.

How do I return a book?

Just bring it back to the library like normal -- we'll take care of the rest!

Lone Star College participates in TexShare, a Texas consortium of libraries. You can request a TexShare card to use at other participating libraries in Texas. This card lets you borrow physical materials from those libraries when you go in person without having to create a library card specific to them -- which in many cases, you might not otherwise be eligible to do! Like the UHD Library or University of St. Thomas Library. The downside is that you have to physically go to the location to borrow (and return) items.
